In Jefferson County, Colorado schools, I found that they need to know the second grade, Core Knowledge book by first grade.
Also, consider Hooked On Phonics complete kit, including spelling, bonuses, and the online subscription. It's best if the kids get a free, professional assessment every year at Kumon (learning centers).
