Economical Shopping Tips for Teenaged Males in Denver Metro

Check out the Quiksilver, Rip Curl and PacSun outlets for tee shirts at Colorado Mills Outlet Mall, in Lakewood, CO.  Grey and black graphic tee shirts seem like the safest bets there. Crewneck, short-sleeves are also more acceptable than other styles for my son.

Marshall's and Ross has some adolescent- friendly tee shirts and jeans too. There are some good, Denver Metro, teenage-friendly  consignment stores for designer jeans, etc. Look for other brands there, such as: Diesel, 7 Religions, Calvin Klein, Michael Kors, Kenneth Cole Reaction New York, Abercrombie and Fitch, and Lucky.

For male, teenaged jeans: boot cut, loose-fitting, dark-rinse, zip fly, whiskering details on the front, without any embellishment/embroidery on them is a safe choice. Check J.C. Penney's catalogue online for Lee jeans brand. Avoid all light-colored or skinny jeans. A medium rise (non-low rise) is much better for them.

Give them a bi-annual, summer and winter gift card to Sports Authority, and ask them to select what they want for themselves. Usually my son despises any malls, or clothes shopping.

Try to get a few collared, casual, solid, black cotton, short-sleeved shirts for them. Michael Kors and Calvin Klein both make excellent ones for teenaged boys. Check out the outlet malls, or consignment shops on a budget.

For teenaged, male suits, Calvin Klein and Kenneth Cole Reaction New York are "younger" and more appropriately-sized/slimmer-fitting. Grey and dark navy blue, solid/non-striped, non -metallic seem acceptable to my teenaged son.

Check out the more modern, trendier, skinny tie styles too. Solid greys and blues are a safe bet. Teach them how to tie a half-Windsor tie knot. YouTube has Brooks Brothers' instructional videos on the half-Windsor tie knot for them. Men's Wearhouse has illustrated instructional pamphlets for the half-Windsor tie knot.

Avoid all pleated pants, and cuffed pant hems when shopping for them. Look for slimmer fitting styles, as suit jackets' shoulders can be too bulky for most teens. Avoid excess shoulder padding in the suit jackets. Also, avoid patent/shiny-leathered, tassels, retro, multi-colored, slippery-soled and pointy-toed dress shoes for them.

Always go for solid, matte black leather, plain, lace-ups, by brands such as Ecco for both the teen and adult men's dress shoes. Make sure soles aren't slippery and both width and length are well-fitting with thick, winter hiking socks. Have them walk at least five yards in the shoes to check comfort and fit. The thick socks allow room for feet swelling towards the end of the day for them.
