To All South Vietnamese-Americans & Egyptian Tok-Tok Drivers:

As the U.S. Secretary of State heads to Southeast Asia and Egypt, I want to have all the Egyptian-American diplomats welcomed and honored in Long-Xuyen, South Vietnam, my birthplace. Their peace efforts have increased our national security and boosted global, economic alliances.

My deceased grandmothers were truly an inspiration to me, because of their own philanthropic works in South Vietnam. They dreamt to have more educational opportunities, vaccination programs and food security for the disenfranchised.

I hope that their visions for a democratic, feminist, empowered South Vietnam can be finally realized. As their granddaughter, I hope this will also become more possible in Egypt. The illiteracy rate of the Egyptian Tok-Tok drivers, who are child slaves, repeatedly being human trafficked by corrupt law enforcement, especially makes my heart ache.
