To All Pregnant Preteens, Or Pregnant Teen Mums:

Contrary to popular beliefs, it takes an African-American village/all of D.C. Metro, to have a baby, as a poor, battered, minority, pregnant, preteen/teen Mum. If you're one, then it's definitely time to assign yourself the best team of two of each: OB/GYN, medical doctors, pediatricians, LCSWs/licensed, clinical, social workers, VNAs/visiting nurses' association, or registered nurses, who are themselves excellent, loving, nurturing, devoted, mothers of teenagers. You'll need to consult with all of them every single month, for your high-risk pregnancy. Starting in the second trimester of your pregnancy, it's better to see them every single week. For the VNAs, try to get ones who are also breastfeeding experts.

Remember, for complicated/high-risk ppregnancies, including abortions, adoptions, or keeping your baby, you may have an increased risk for PPD. Please ask your LCSW for resources, support groups, and counseling recommendations, which should be supportive and beneficial to your emotional well-being, and increase your chances in having positive self-esteem.
