Mosquitoes & Chikungunya In Florida

http://www.cnn.com/2014/07/17/health/mosquito-disease-chikungunya-u-s-/

I think using BTI crystals/granules/rings/blocks, Picaridin, tropical strength DEET repellent sprays, double window screens, screened porches, screened doors, and screening all vents into the buildings are worthy measures in Florida. Mosquito netting (soaked in permethrin) for bedrooms, cribs and infant strollers can help. Ceiling, and rotating fans can repel them also.

***Permethrin kills bees, and fish, so be careful with its application areas, so it doesn't contaminate water sources or ground outside.***

Long-sleeved shirts, long pants, socks, shies that are non-vented, infused with permethrin, and avoiding perfumes, scented products might help. Building screens can be soaked in Picaridin, or tropical strength DEET also. Draining birdbaths, gutters, plant pots, trash bins, fountains, grills, wheelbarrows, still, koi ponds and outdoor swimming pools can reduce mosquito populations.

Attracting frogs, toads, bats (put up bat houses), dragonflies, and insect-eating birds will help. I found that www.gardeners.com had lawn granules with repelling, natural oils, which was effective. It had lemongrass oil in it. Lemon eucalyptus oil is also another natural mosquito repellent. Those anti-mosquito, citronella smoke coils (like incense) helped. There are exterior lightbulbs that repel mosquitoes also.
