It's best at the Denver VA Medical Center to build a large I.T. storage room for each department, at least four per floor, 100 person capacity per room, with 5-inch thick, metal, fireproof walls, static electricity-proof, humidity-free, climate/temperature-controlled, biometric security locks (retinal scanning), that can serve as a staff panic room/emergency communication room, because of all the Colorado shootings that have ocurred.
It needs a separate, hidden power supply, with secured, biometric authentication, sat-phones, in the event of a mass shooting/hostage situation also. There are too many drug cartels in Colorado, militias, and terrorist groups, including ISIL threats. It should include gas masks, potassium iodide injections, in the event of a chemical, or dirty bomb. Ideally, every staff member should be able to properly don their gas mask in one minute, assess nuclear threats in another minute, locate and then inject themselves with potassium iodide in thirty seconds.
There should be training in those scenarios every four months (3 hours per session). That way everyone is able to quickly, and calmly put on their gas masks. Then, quickly check all the Center's Geiger counters remotely, and use the newer communication system with the right federal agencies. The staff should have assigned federal agency liason officers (from Homeland Security) who actually trained and met them in person.
